Mother’s Day Out classes include a one year-old Toddler class for children who are at least 12 months old by September 1st of that year. The class is offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Parents may register for one or both days, depending upon availability. PDO also includes classes for two-year-olds. These children must be at least 24 months old by September 1st of that year. The two-year-old classes are offered on Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday. Parents may sign up for either two-day class, but not both. The class is from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
DROP OFF/PICK UP
Parents bring their child/children directly to the classroom at 9:30 a.m. Please be on time. It is very difficult for the child to acclimate when they arrive late. The Sign-In Sheet must be signed before leaving. Please notify the teachers at drop-off time who will be picking up the child (if it is someone other than the person who brought them). Please do not bring your child to the class before 9:30 a.m. If you arrive at school before 9:30 a.m., you may let your child play in the gym until it is time to take him or her to class. Children must be left if the presence of a staff member. Our day ends promptly at 2:30 p.m. Parents come to the room to pick up their child and they must sign the Sign-Out Sheet before leaving.
Our teachers must have previous experience working with one- and two-year-olds. They must exhibit a high degree of patience and understanding with toddlers, and they must be able to work in a cooperative manner with the other teacher.
We are an open school, but due to the age of the Mother’s Day Out children, it can be very upsetting to see a parent during the school day. If you would like to observe or visit, please set this up with the Assistant Director ahead of time. The school will provide a comfortable place to enable a mother to breastfeed her child here at school. Parents may also provide breast milk for their child while in our care.
Children should wear comfortable, easy-to-change clothing. Please do not send your child in one-piece overalls, etc. Shirts that can be pulled over the head, and pants or shorts with an elastic waist are best.
Please send your child to school wearing athletic shoes and socks. The kids run and play inside and out, having appropriate shoes prevents accidents. Please no sandals, crocks, boots, or flip flops.
The school will provide the morning snack, which is usually goldfish crackers and water. Please provide a lunch that meets our nut-free guidelines. Food should be easy to open and ready to eat. We will serve whole milk, water, or you may provide your own drink. If you would like to substitute another drink or snack, please let us know. We do celebrate birthdays at school; if parents would like to bring a special treat, we encourage you to bring individual cookies or a cookie cake (no icing on either). We do not allow cupcakes.
A nap mat or sleeping bag with a blanket is necessary for naptime. We also ask that you provide an extra set of clothes, and four disposable diapers each day. Please label everything, including the lunch box, nap mat, sippy cup, etc. with your child’s name. Please write your child’s name on the front of each diaper with a permanent marker. If they are potty training, pull-ups with Velcro are best. If your child needs a pacifier or favorite blanket for comfort, please provide these. For one-year-olds please send a sippy cup with their name on it. Please do not send your child wearing any jewelry.
